Arcade FireFuneral
This year I knew there was a distinct top three to my list without much consideration. The order of those three took me ages, and I should say that when I started putting the list together, my gut had this as number 1. It is only with more careful consideration that it got bumped down two places. This has volumes to say about how much I like the other two albums, because this is almost flawless. Every track is magnificent. No other band sound like Arcade Fire, they are in a place of their very own. Both rock and indie at the same time, with a great mixture of instruments and sounds, originality and basics, this band stand on the brink of immortality. ‘Rebellion (Lies)’ is still perhaps my favourite track here, but ‘Neighbourhood 2 (Laika)’ always gets me going (“come on Alex, you can do it!”) and ‘Wake Up’ is obviously marvellous. Live at Leeds they blew my mind (more on that later).
Gods in the making.
